It's a pretty coffee shop with tattooed, apron-wearing bartenders serving every possible variation of coffee and a palette of roasted beans from around the world. Named Black Up Coffee in 2015, it was actually born in 1975 under the name Café del Mundo and spurred on by Perry Merkel, an avid Alaskan who set out to discover beans on coffee farms in Central America. Specializing in roasting, he opened several stores in Anchorage. The coffee shop also sells coffees from Central America and Africa mainly.
