It takes place between Anchorage and Nome, in the far west of Alaska, over 938 miles, or 1,510 km. The race starts on the first Saturday of March and lasts 8 to 15 days, depending on the year and the crews. It is 50 years old: the first one took place in 1973. The teams have 14 dogs at the start and at least 6 at the finish to be validated. It is an opportunity to see beautiful dogs and to greet great mushers.
