The Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race is the world's most legendary dog sled race, dubbed "The Ultimate Great Race on Earth. It takes place between Anchorage and Nome, in the far west of Alaska, over 938 miles, or 1,510 km. The race starts on the first Saturday of March and lasts 8 to 15 days, depending on the year and the crews. It is 50 years old: the first one took place in 1973. The teams have 14 dogs at the start and at least 6 at the finish to be validated. It is an opportunity to see beautiful dogs and to greet great mushers.
