The Holy Ascension Orthodox Church built in 1826 is listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places.
Listed on the U.S. National Register of Historic Places and restored in 1998, Holy Ascension Orthodox Church was built in 1826 by the first Western occupants. At that time, Alaska was still Russian and the Orthodox place of worship was part of the evangelization of the Aleutian Islanders. Nevertheless, it replaced the very first church of Unalaska which was built earlier. It is topped with two characteristic pretty bulbs.
