The second largest sled dog race in the world takes place between Whitehorse, Canada and Fairbanks, Alaska.
The world's second-largest sled dog race takes place in early February between Whitehorse in Canada and Fairbanks in Alaska in even-numbered years. In odd-numbered years, the race departs from Fairbanks. To cover the 1,600 km, competitors follow the postal route used by the early gold diggers. The race is the major winter event in Fairbanks. Competitors come from all over the world. However, if you want to attend the preparations and the start of the race, you'll need to book well in advance, as hotels are often fully booked.
