Visit the trail that was a trade route for the Chilkat people.
Less famous than the Chilkoot Trail in Skagway, this trail connected Pyramid Harbor in Haines to Fort Selkirk in the Yukon, 396 km away. The Haines Highway now follows part of its route. This trail was also a trade route for the Chilkat (Tlingit) people before John Dalton and a few companions traveled through the area in 1890 to explore the Alaskan interior. He set up trading posts and a toll booth. It was also abandoned in 1900 after the construction of the railroad.
