The city of Petersburg celebrates its Scandinavian colonial heritage and honors its ancestors on Norwegian Constitution Day, every May 17. The inhabitants of the city dress up as Vikings, Valkyries and other typical Norwegian characters. Parade, party, music and race are on the program. A festival a bit crazy and quite folkloric with floats carrying drakkars and inhabitants wearing animal skins and horned helmets like the Vikings, in a city colored with red and white.
