Island on the town of Ketchikan offering many trails to discover the furry and feathered residents.
It is on this island that the town of Ketchikan is located. It offers many trails to explore the island and discover its furry and feathered residents.
Ward Lake Trail It is about 3 miles long and is located northwest of town. It allows you to walk around the lake and learn a lot about the surrounding nature through interpretive panels.
A little longer but just as easy, the trail along Connell Lake is especially enjoyable during August due to the many berries that can be picked and enjoyed on site. Beware, however, bears also love these wild berries and it is advisable to make a little noise when the vegetation prevents you from having a view of the nearby surroundings!
On the other side of the island are the Silvis Lakes. They also allow a very beautiful hike, more difficult than the previous ones. The view of George Bay and the Mahoney Mountains is magnificent when the weather is good.
Finally, for hikers who are not afraid to spend two nights in tents, the trail called Deer Mountain is a real treat. It crosses the island from east to west from Ketchikan. From the trail's highest point at about 1100m, it offers extraordinary views of the neighbouring islands of Annette, Pennock, Gravina and Prince of Wales. Opportunities to see black bears, rocky mountain goats and Sitka deer are important.
