Inupiat Festival organized in Barrow, a small village in the Far North that celebrates the end of the whale hunt every year.
This is one of the most authentic festivals in Alaska, as it is organized by the "native" Inupiat people of the small village of Barrow. If you're going to travel this far into the backcountry, you might as well do it during this festival. It takes place at the end of June, just after the whale hunting season. Depending on the success of the whale hunt, the festival can last a few days or a week. This is a tradition that goes back a long way among the Inupiat. You will see whole families busy preparing delicious food, all made from whale meat.
