ST. JOSEPH CHURCH
Church built at the beginning of the XXth century in the middle of the gold rush, and which was located on Front Street in Nome
Built at the very beginning of the 20th century, in 1901, at the height of the gold rush, when the city had nearly 30,000 souls, this Christian Catholic church was located on Front Street and also served as a lighthouse for fishermen. It also marked the territoriality of the Westerners against the Russians. When the city was emptied of its inhabitants, it was abandoned. Relocated and finally renovated in 1995, it is part of Nome's glorious past and one of the sites of interest to visit. It contrasts with its wooden hut appearance.
