TIRANA CASTLE
Tourist complex with a section of Byzantine wall, stores, restaurants, cafés and the future Besa Museum.
This "castle" (Kalaja e Tiranës) is a tourist complex created in 2018 between Murat-Toptani pedestrian street to the north and Zhan-d'Arc boulevard to the south. To the north, the main entrance is via an ancient 6th-13th-century Byzantine wall known as Justinian's Fortress (110 m long and 6 m high). A pedestrian alley leads to stores, restaurants and cafés. Here you'll find the Toptani Palace (closed to visitors), built in 1840 for the city's wealthiest family, and the future Besa Museum.
