CENTRE DES VISITEURS DU MONT DAJTI
This national park extends over 285.6 in the Skanderbeg massif, around Mount Dajti and to the east of the Albanian capital.
Created in 2006, this national park (Parku Kombëtar Mali i Dajtit) extends over 285.6 km2 in the Skanderbeg massif around Mount Dajti. It is divided between the districts of Tirana (75% of its surface), Kruja (to the north) and Mat (to the northeast). In addition to Mount Dajti, which rises to an altitude of 1,613 m, it includes several major peaks. The highest is to the southeast: Mali me Gropa ("mountain with holes"). Rising to an altitude of 1,818 m, it is distinguished by its karst formations. To the north-west, Mali i Brarrit ("Brarr Mountain") boasts a double peak at 1,193 m altitude. It overlooks the hamlet of Brarr to the south and Lake Bovilla to the north. The park continues north-west to Mali i Krujës ("Kruja Mountain"), overlooking the town of Kruja at 1,176 m above sea level. The southern part of the park is bounded by the river Erzen (109 km long), one of the many rivers that originate in the park. There are also extensive wooded areas. In all, there are almost 1,000 plant species, four of which are endemic. These include the Skanderbeg bellflower(Campanula skanderbegii), a flower with purple petals known locally as lulekambanë e Skënderbeut. But in recent decades, the extensive oak and thorn forests have fallen victim to illegal logging and fires. In terms of wildlife, the remaining wild areas are home to bears, wolves, wild boar and foxes.
