Albania's oldest carnival, created by the Catholic community of Shkodra in 1860. Float parades, concerts, dances, etc.
Karnavalet e Shkodrës is Albania's oldest carnival. Of Catholic origin, it has been held in Shkodra, the large city in the north, since 1860, but was interrupted for a long time during the Communist dictatorship, between 1946 and 1990. For three days, floats are paraded through the streets, along with concerts, dances and traditional food tastings. Many of the costumed participants wear the superb masks produced by the highly reputed local Venice Art Mask workshop, which supplies the Venice Carnival.
