ST. STEPHEN'S CATHEDRAL, SHKODRA
Interesting ceiling painted in 1909: the icon of Our Lady of Shkodra carried by two angels in traditional regional costume.
Consecrated in 1867, this Catholic cathedral (Katedralja e Shën Shtjefnit) is the seat of the Shkodra-Pulati archdiocese. With its 23 m-high bell tower, it is especially worth a visit for its frescoes, painted in 1909 by Kolë Idromeno. The vault depicts the icon of Our Lady of Shkodra being carried by two angels in traditional regional costume, with the citadel of Rozafa in the background. A diocesan museum is open daily next to the cathedral.
