MOSQUÉE ABOU-BAKR
Modern mosque framed by two 41.11 m-high minarets. Uninteresting, but a good landmark in the heart of the city.
Located in the city center, this modern mosque (Xhamia Ebu Bekër) is framed by two 41.11 m high minarets and has a 24 m high dome. Financed by funds from Saudi Arabia, it is dedicated to Abu Bakr as-Siddiq, the first caliph of Islam in the seventh century. It was erected in 1995 on the site of the Ottoman Fushë-Çela mosque which was destroyed during the communist period. With a capacity of 1,300 worshippers, it is also called Great Mosque (Xhamia e Madhe) or New Fushë-Çela Mosque (Xhamia e re e Fushë Çelës).
