LEAD MOSQUE
Built in 1774, this Arab-inspired mosque is one of the most beautiful in the country. Abandoned in 1865. Work in progress.
Located at the foot of the Rozafa citadel, at the confluence of the Drin, Kir and Buna rivers, this Arabic-inspired mosque (Xhamia e Plumbit) dates back to 1774 and is one of the most beautiful in the country. But since the great flood of the Drin in 1865, it has been abandoned. Adorned with eighteen domes and a large dome once covered in lead, it used to be the center of Shkodra's sharia, the city's commercial and Islamic district. A project to renovate the mosque and divert the Kir River was launched in 2022.
