PATOK LAGOON
480-hectare lagoon with a large sea turtle colony, houses on stilts and restaurants on the breakwater.
This beautiful 480-hectare lagoon (Laguna e Patokut) is bounded by the mouths of the Mat to the north and the Ishem to the south. It is home to a large sea turtle colony and observation center: around 400 individuals spend time here before heading to Greece and Tunisia in winter. Due to a lack of maintenance since the end of the communist regime, the lagoon has partially silted up. But you can still fish from pretty stilt huts, and there are restaurants on the artificial dyke.
