Albania's largest artificial lake, at the foot of the town of Kukës. Magnificent scenery, but no activities on offer.

This 72 km2 artificial lake (Liqeni i Fierzës) is the largest in Albania. It is formed by the waters of the White and Black Drins, which meet at the foot of Kukës. The scenery is magnificent, but there are no activities on offer. The ancient Kukës was buried in 1976 when the lake was impounded by a huge 166 m-high dam built with the help of Chinese engineers, just before relations between Beijing and Tirana broke down. The dam is located at Fierza, near the artificial lake of Koman (111 km to the north-west via SH 23 and SH 22).
