MONUMENT DE LA RÉSISTANCE
Striking bronze statue of a fighter raising his rifle for the assault. Symbol of resistance to the Romans, Ottomans..
This striking monument (Monumenti i rezistencës) has stood facing the sea since 1989. Designed by the sculptors Hektor Dule (born 1939) and Fuat Dushku (1933-2002), it is composed of leaning concrete columns that form a circle with a 3 m high base that supports a bronze statue of a fighter raising his rifle for the assault. On three of the columns, bas-reliefs represent the resistance of Illyrians and Albanians to the Romans, Ottomans and Italian fascism.
