RUE ANASTAS-DURRSAKU
This pleasant street runs alongside an imposing section of the city's defensive walls dating from the Byzantine, Venetian and Ottoman periods.
This pleasant street runs north-west from the Venetian tower through the town center. It bears the name of a local glory: "Anastasius of Durrës", the Byzantine emperor Anastasius I (491-518), who was born here in Dyrrachium around 430. For 350 m, the street runs alongside a well-preserved section of the medieval fortifications. Erected in brick by the Byzantines from the5th century onwards, they were subsequently modified by the Venetians and Ottomans. Behind these walls, in parallel streets, are the Ethnographic Museum, the Fathi Mosque and the Amphitheatre.
