TOUR DE L'HORLOGE D'ELBASAN
White tower, 15 m high, erected in 1899 on a bastion of the Elbasan citadel. Iconic but not open to the public.
This white tower of 15 m height (Kulla e Sahatit) stands on a bastion of the citadel. It was erected in 1899 on the site of a previous wooden tower and was used to indicate prayer times to Muslim inhabitants. It is square in shape (4.3 m on each side) and made of brick. It has an inscription indicating that it was financed by Aqif Pacha Elbasani (1860-1926), an independence activist, whose recent statue is located at the foot of the tower on Qemal-Stafa Boulevard.
