TEKKÉ DE TURAN
On the outskirts of Korça towards Moscopole, this Bektashi place of worship was briefly the Brotherhood's international headquarters in 1930.
On your way to Moscopole, you can stop off at this little haven of peace. Founded in 1827, the Turan tekké (Teqeja e Turanit) was briefly the international headquarters of Bektashism in 1930, before being transferred to Tirana. The brotherhood is particularly well established in the region. Still on the road to Moscopole, you'll see the green dome of the Melçan tekké on the right, high up on the hill. Dating from 1620, it was destroyed by the Ottomans in 1826 and rebuilt by the great poet Baba Abdullah shortly afterwards.
