First World War cemetery. Graves of 640 soldiers of the French Army of the East who died here between 1916 and 1918.
This cemetery of the First World War (Varrezat Franceze) shelters the graves of 640 soldiers of the French Army of the East, present in Korça from November 1916 to May 1920. They are French as well as Malagasy, Burkinabe or Vietnamese. Some of them were killed in the fighting against the Bulgarians during the capture of Pogradec on September 13, 1917 by the1st Moroccan Spahis Regiment. Most of them died of diseases in the French military hospital of Korça.
