TUMULUS DE KAMENICA
This site, occupied since Neolithic times, is home to 400 tombs dating from the to centuries BC. Well equipped with a small museum.
Not very high but measuring 74 m in diameter, this tumulus (Tuma e Kamenicës) is one of the largest in the Balkans. It houses over 400 individual tombs dating from the 13th to the 7th century BC. Prior to this, the site served as a necropolis for the Neolithic "Maliq culture". Discovered in 1996 but looted the following year, the tumulus has since been the subject of extensive research by an Albanian-American archaeological team. The team has now made the site accessible to visitors, with a small museum.
