FORTERESSE DE BORSH
On the heights of Borsh, this ruined fortress offers a panoramic view of the Ionian coast and the Acroceraunian mountains.
This ruined fortress (Kalaja e Borshit or Kalaja e Sopotit) is located on a hill at 290 m above sea level and offers a beautiful panorama of the coast and the Acroceraunian mountains. It was built by the Byzantines in the 13th century on the site of an ancient acropolis, then redesigned by the Ottomans. In the fifteenth century, it passed briefly into the hands of the Venetians of Corfu, then Albanian troops from Italy to support the son of Skanderbeg. The mosque (17th century) built on the south tower was damaged during the atheist campaign of 1967.
