KAKOME BAY
Sandy bay surrounded by two high green hills. Superb private beach for a fee, and nearby Krorëza beach by boat.
This small sandy bay (Gjiri i Kakomesë) is surrounded by two high green hills. It is perhaps the most beautiful in Albania. But it belongs to the construction group Riviera Kakome, which announced in 2010 that it would build a large luxury hotel complex here. In the meantime, you have to pay to come and bathe here in crystal clear waters. It is better to arrive here by boat. Already, it allows to avoid paying the entrance. It also gives the opportunity to enjoy the nearby beach of Krorëza (Plazhi i Krorëzës). This beach has no road access. However, it has two cafes-restaurants open in summer, unlike the beach of Kakome Bay where there is no infrastructure. Above each of the two beaches is an ancient Greek Orthodox monastery. Both complexes date from the 18th century, both are dedicated to the dormition of the Mother of God and both were abandoned during the communist period, but both have beautiful frescoes. Unfortunately, the monastery of Kakome is mostly closed. Perhaps it is better that way. Because the church of the small monastery of Krorëza remains open to all winds... and to all vandals. All the lower parts of its frescoes were recently destroyed by tourists who carved their names on the faces of the saints. A real massacre. The upper parts are relatively well preserved with a beautiful program on the life of Mary, from her conception to the dormition.
