FORT TRIANGULAIRE
Attractive little Venetian fort, open to the public, opposite the Butrint archaeological site. Beautiful views over the national park.
This Venetian fort (Kalaja Trekëndore) offers beautiful views over the national park. It owes its name to its 30-40 m long ramparts, which form a triangle at the confluence of the Vivari canal and the Pavllas river. Built around 1490, it was used to protect the fish traps, olive groves and pastures that supplied Corfu. In 1572, three semicircular towers were added to the fort, the highest of which, on the south side, is 21 m high. The interior features a small round tower and vaulted rooms (powder magazine, workshops and stores).
