Beautiful old house with charming, cool rooms with TV, air conditioning and bathroom.

Haxhi and Vita Kotoni were the first to open a guesthouse in Gjirokastra back in 1991. Since then, their sense of hospitality has made it the town's most popular address. In this beautiful old house, which has belonged to the same family for three generations, the rooms may be small, but they are full of charm and, above all, stay cool, which is particularly pleasant in summer. They are equipped with TV, air conditioning and a bathroom with shower. The price of the room and breakfast is the same whether you're one, two or three. You can make your own tea and coffee in the communal kitchen and chat with the owners, who always have some good advice to offer in English (Vita spends her free time visiting the country, hotels, restaurants, etc.). Breakfast, served in a tiny lounge on the first floor, is a real treat. Services available for a small fee (dinner, washing machine). Reduced rates for students.

We read very good comments on this guide sly little minx and we decided to stay in this place. Once on site, we were disappointed. We found, an old-fashioned hotel, the room was small, noisy and not very comfortable. Decoration went back to 1992, soap used, dirty bathroom, an old TELEVISION as a decoration (it did not). At the entrance of the room, a can was where a smell emerged from petrol which prevented us from sleep well. To have made at least 6 hotels in Albania, breakfast at this hotel was not up to the quality of the food in the region. There was not a choice of hot drinks, one imposed a tea to us on the camomile and when we asked for a coffee, served a horrible Turkish coffee to us because it was the only coffee they had. The worst breakfast our stay in Albania. Despite the effort of staff to stay pleasant, communication is very complicated because the lady with the reception does not speak other languages that the Albanian and his buddy, friendly, speak only him German. We found the following day manager of breakfast, the only person who spoke English and even French (it is also guide and nice), but despite that, we do not recommend this hotel. Ask to visit the room before you to compromise. For the same price, you will find much better.
