ETHNOGRAPHIC MUSEUM OF GJIROKASTRA
On the site of Enver Hoxha's birthplace. Reconstructions of rooms from traditional Gjirokastra houses.
This municipal museum (Muzeu Etnografik) is located on the site of the birthplace of Enver Hoxha (1908-1985), which was destroyed by fire. In its place, in 1966, Enver Hoxha had a large "traditional" building erected to house an "anti-fascist" museum. Today, the museum features reconstructions of rooms from a typical house (a wool-working room, a richly decorated living room, etc.) and 19th-century objects (folk costumes, clothing, kitchen utensils, etc.).
