LYTCHAKIV CEMETERY (ЛИЧАКIВСЬКИЙ ЦВИНТАР)
It is Father Lachaise of Central Europe. Built in 1786, following the ban by the Austrian authorities on burying the dead in the territory of the churches, this is the first public cemetery in Lviv. You have to love the atmosphere of cemetery, but it's really beautiful. Most of the graves are decorated with decorations. There is the grave of the poet Ivan Franko. It covers 40 ha on a hill, and since 1991 it has become a true museum of Ukrainian culture, but also Polish and Austrian in the open air. Famous Polish writers (Zapolska and Konopnicka) and many Austrians are buried there. It also shows the graves of famous Ukrainian scientists and politicians. Part of the cemetery is occupied by the graves of Poles killed during the 1919-1920 war between Ukraine and Poland, which is why the cemetery is often invaded by Poles, coming to search for traces of ancestors buried away from their native lands.
