LVIV HISTORY MUSEUM (МУЗЕЙ МУЗЕЙ ЛЬВІВСЬКИЙ)
Housed in three buildings of the Ploscha Rynok, this museum consists of permanent exhibitions, the most important of which is the history of Western Ukrainian and the daily life of its inhabitants, from Prehistory to nowadays. It is one of the oldest museums in Ukraine. At No. 24, the museum recounts the history of Kiev'in Kiev and the State of Galicia-Kermanych, in the light of a new form of value. Among the most important pieces of the museum are the Manuscrit manuscript of Christinopol dating from the th century, the order of Saint-André and the documents depicting Chopin's life. At No. 2 you will find an exhibition devoted to Ukrainian history of the th and th centuries, with a part devoted to the victims of Stalinist purges, where some crafts were executed in concentration camps.
Another set of halls evokes the lives of Ukrainians immigrants and their ties with the homeland. The few traditional feminine costumes, located there, were embroidered by Ukrainian Ukrainians in the 1970 s. An interior of a traditional Hutsule house is reconstructed in this section devoted to Ukrainian immigrants. Three wax figures in this house represent a traditional family. This group, originally conceived as part of an ethnographic exhibition of the 1930 s, was exposed for several years of the Soviet era in another exhibition, devoted this time to the different types of interior of Ukrainian houses - from poor peasants to the bourgeois. Today, the same composition is supposed to represent, according to one of the museum's guides, the house of immigrant Ukrainians! Very pleasant is the branch at No. 6, with its small Italian court. Unfortunately, virtually no explanation in English or French is planned and even explanations in Ukrainian are rare.
During a visit to the museum, you can stop drinking something in the coffee Italiis'kiy dvorik (I тал i йський дворик, Pl. Rynok 6, every day from to), located in the Italian courtyard, one of the most romantic places in Lviv. Access to the paid court, 2 UAH (less than € 1).
