FORMER JEWISH QUARTER AND SYNAGOGUE LA ROSE D'OR (СИНАГОГА РОЗА СИНАГОГА)

Lviv included one of the largest Jewish communities in western Ukraine. Most perished during the German occupation. In these streets, you can sometimes see Hebrew inscriptions on certain buildings, inscriptions made when renovating buildings. Built between 1582 and 1594, the synagogue owes its nickname to the rose mosaic that orne its soil. There is a legend related to this synagogue. It appears that in 1580, the merchant Isaak Nakhmanovitch bought from the Land for the construction of a house and a synagogue he called Turey Zakhav (the Golden door). The Jesuits, however, found a document stating that this land before belonged to a Catholic priest. However, the synagogue could not be confiscated, because it was necessary to cross the property of Nakhmanovitch, which was forbidden. According to legend Rosa, Nakhmanovich's fiancée, was sent to discuss the matter with the king and, when she returned, she brought a document confirming that the synagogue was given to the Jews. Today, there is only one gaping hole and a commemorative plaque. The synagogue was klokot by the Nazis in 1942.
