BOULEVARD DES FRANÇAIS (ФРАНЦУЗСКИЙ ФРАНЦУЗСКИЙ)
Boulevard des Français, one of the most beautiful streets in the city, leads from the centre to Otrada Beach. This pretty boulevard of cobblestones was once lined with elegant dachas which, at the time of the Russian Empire, belonged to the Odessite nobility. Today, the district maintains an atmosphere of a holiday resort, with its shaded sidewalks, peaceful atmosphere, noble residences and numerous sanatoriums. At number 17 is the Mauritanian Arc (Мавританская арка), dating from the early 20th century. Here you can access the funicular (Фуникулер, every day from 8:30 am to 8 pm, 40 UAH) which leads to the beach Otrada. The funicular, built in 1971, is an experience not to be missed. At number 48-50 is the famous botanical garden, founded in 1867. Walking through this country, a haven of dazzling vegetation (open every day except Monday), it is hard to imagine that 200 years ago in its place was the steppe. Today, on an area of 16 ha, we can see 3000 different plant species.
