The ancient city is located near the Artillery Bay. It was founded by the Greeks in the 988 th century BC and it was here that Prince Vladimir was baptized in giving the beginning to the christianization of ancient Rus. At the presumed place of baptism of Prince Vladimir, the Cathedral Saint-Vladimir was built to commemorate the 900 years of the prince's baptism, between 1861 and 1892. But 34 years later the temple had to close. The building was heavily destroyed during the wars raging in the region. In 1992, the faithful came to the temple half destroyed to pray and prevent his total destruction. The renovation began in 1992 and later 10 years later. In Khersones, you can walk through the old streets of the city and discover collections of amphorae or coins as well as fabulous monuments, including the many basilicas built between the th and th centuries and the amphitheatre. Swimming in the Black Sea in the middle of the ruins is particularly evocative.
