POLTAVA BATTLE MUSEUM (ПОЛТАВСКОÏ-IСТОРИКО IСТОРИКО "IСТОРИКО КУЛЬТУРНИЙ IСТОРИКО")
9 km from the centre of the city was erected the Battle of Poltava Museum, which took place on 27 June 1709 and was decisive in the Battle of the Northern war (1700-1721). On that day, the army of King Charles XII of Sweden was crushed by Russian troops under the command of Pierre the Great, in front of the walls of the city. The museum was built on the old battlefield. We can see a model of the battle, a slide show, the arms, the flags, the objects belonging to Pierre the Great. Next to this is the grave in which the 1 345 bodies of soldiers died in combat, with above, a mound surmounted by a polished granite cross. In the bicentennial of the battle, a monument was erected in memory of Swedish soldiers.
