KNIGHTS' PALACE
Behind a small garden, the neo-Gothic style building was completed in the mid th century. It then serves as a meeting place for nobility. Today, there are also chamber music concerts.
The walk continues behind the magnificent Lutheran Cathedral on Snellmaninkatu Street, a headquarters of the bank of Finland built in 1822. At two steps, please note the metal fountain, made by Eila Hiltunen (author of the monument Sibelius). In the face of the bank of Finland, the statue of Johan Wilhelm Snellman (1806-1881), a remarkable Finnish statesman of the th century, took the initiative to beat a separate Finnish currency from the rouble. Works by Emil Wikström, the latter also sculpted the frise of the house of Orders (Mariankatu 5) built on the plans of Gustaf Nyström, located near and restored to host the state's honour salons. Completed in 1891, it serves as a meeting place in commoners orders at the national level of orders. Nyström is also the source of numerous public buildings in Helsinki, such as the National Archives Building (Rauhankatu 17), whose oldest document dates back to 1316. By continuing our walk on Unioninkatu, take a look at the Faculty of Humanities, located in the oldest hospital facilities in Helsinki.
By extending on Unioninkatu, you can reach the Botanical Garden of the University and the great park of Kaisaniemi (Unioninkatu 44). Further afield, taking the Liisankatu street to the end and passing through the beautiful Quartier district (in French'the king's paddock '), the sea and the docks reveal themselves. Once on Pohjoisranta, there are th century and early th century tall buildings. A land arm links Tervasaari where the oil tar stocks of traders were introduced in the th century. This space, restored as a park, is one of the favourite places of the Helsinki residents. The golden bulbs of the majestic Uspenski Cathedral are also available in the eyes of the curious.
