IGLESIAS VERACRUZ Y TERCERA
Church with the Cristo de los Agonizantes crucifix, before which the condemned men on death row used to pray before their execution
The Veracruz church is part of the same religious architectural complex as the San Francisco church and the Tercera church. Its sober interior houses the Cristo de los Agonizantes crucifix, in front of which those condemned to death used to meditate before their execution. Now the National Pantheon, it contains the tombs of great figures of the Independence. Next to it, the eighteenth-century Iglesia de la Tercera houses beautiful sculptures, including rococo pulpits and altars.
