CASA DE POESÍA SILVA
A museum dedicated to Colombian poetry, which was the most developed literary genre in Colombia
The figure of José Asunción Silva, the famous Colombian poet (1865-1896), is painted on many walls of La Candelaria. A simple black human figure in a raincoat with a white heart in the middle of his chest. Silva committed suicide at the age of 31 by shooting himself in the heart. This 18th century house was his last home. It is now a museum dedicated to Colombian poetry, which was the most developed literary genre in Colombia, influencing many prose writers, such as Gabriel García Márquez.
