This beautiful colonial mansion located northeast of the main square is also known as Casa de los Portales. Built in 1585, it was the home of the Spanish chronicler, later monk and poet, Don Juan de Castellano. The twelve columns and arches of the building represent the twelve apostles. Very well preserved, the Casa de Juan de Castellanos houses a small commercial center, with handicraft stores and restaurants among others.
