Museum dedicated to Antonio Ricaurte, national hero, who died defending an armory attacked by the Spanish army
Antonio Ricaurte was born in this house in 1786. He died in 1814 in San Mateo, Venezuela, defending an armory attacked by the Spanish army. He blew up the building, causing his own death and that of his enemies. The captain's sacrifice contributed to the victory of the independence fighters. Today, this national hero is the symbol of the Colombian Air Force and a verse of the national anthem pays tribute to him: " Ricaurte in San Mateo, flying in dust ".
