CONVENTO DE SAN AGUSTIN
Convent of Saint Augustine, which houses a branch of the Alexander Von Humboldt Institute (biological research in the Colombian Andes)
The convent of Saint Augustine and its church were founded in 1573 by the hermit Vicente de Resquejada, chaplain of the expedition led by the German conquistador Nikolaus de Federmán. It was the first convent in the city. The Augustinian friars lived there until 1835, and then in 1880, the convent received the first Colombian religious congregation, the Dominican sisters. Today, it houses one of the branches of the Alexander Von Humboldt Institute dedicated to the research of the biological resources of the Colombian Andes.
