MUSEO EL FÓSIL
Famous museum for marine fossils located in Villa De Leyva, exhibiting kronosaurus boyacensis and other marine reptiles.
Tens of millions of years ago, the whole area was covered by the sea. The place is famous for its marine fossils. In the museum, you can admire a spectacular Kronosaurus boyacensis, 15 meters long, discovered in 1977. Forty years later, paleontologists found the fossil of another marine reptile of 127 million years. The 8-meter long plesiosaur dates back to the Lower Cretaceous and would be between 145 and 65 million years old. This dating would make all the richness of this fossil, with regard to its geological age.
