This cathedral is one of the oldest in South America
One of the oldest cathedrals in South America. Its construction began in 1575, before being suspended during the destructive assault of Francis Drake, and then completed in 1612. Extensive modifications were made by the Archbishop of Cartagena, who covered the cathedral with stucco to give it a marble appearance and added a dome and tower. The three naves are simply decorated. The main altarpiece, worked with gold leaf, dates from the 18th century.
