MUSEO NAVAL DEL CARIBE
This museum, located in a former Jesuit school, exhibits the history of the Spanish galleon San José
The museum is located in a former Jesuit college, dating from 1612. The naval history of Colombia and the Caribbean is told here in a rather modest collection: the Carib Indians, the foundation of Cartagena and the attacks of the pirates Drake, Vernon or De Pontis. Also on display is the story of the Spanish galleon San Jose, loaded with 200 tons of gold that sank in 1708 off the coast of the city and whose wreck was identified in 2015. The recovery of this enormous treasure is the subject of many discussions between Colombia, Spain and treasure hunters.
