Originally, this site was occupied by the little Fort El Boquerón, one of the first defensive positions in the city, built in the middle of the th century. Destroyed during an attack of privateers in the th century, it was replaced by the fortress of Pastelillo, designed by engineer Bautista McEven. The fort serves as a marina and has a restaurant managed by the Cartagena Fishing Club.
