IGLESIA DE SAN NICOLÁS
San Nicolás Cathedral and the square of the same name are considered the navel of the city
San Nicolás Cathedral and the square of the same name are considered the navel of the city, the place of its foundation and the witness of the city's history. The Neo-Gothic church was completed three centuries after its construction began in the 17th century. It has undergone numerous additions and modifications over time. Beneath the Plaza San Nicolás, bones from the fourth century were found from an Arawak people. In the sixteenth century, the plaza began to be inhabited by free people who fled the Spanish domination.
