ESTACIÓN LA CAMELIA
The Aerial Cable was inaugurated in 1922 after 10 years of work. It connected Manizales to Mariquita, an important port on the Magdalena River. At 72 km, it was the longest cable car in the world. It was a daring response to the difficult topography of the region. It transported up to 10 tons of coffee per hour. The Cable operated until 1961 when the towers were dismantled and the materials recycled. The old wooden building of the La Camelia station, an icon of the city, is the only testimony of this past. It has been declared Property of Cultural Interest of the Nation.
