This monument was built between 1997 and 2002 with 50 tons of bronze and is the work of local artist Luis Guillermo Vallejo Vargas, who also designed the Monumento a los Comuneros in Chicamocha Park. It symbolically retraces the stages of the paisa colonization that led to the foundation of cities like Manizales. Lots of animation in the evening, and beautiful sunsets. The Chilean poet Pablo Neruda said that Manizales was a "factory of sunsets"!
