IGLESIA SANTO DOMINGO
Church in Popayan, with magnificent statues from the Quitena and Spanish schools and a particularly large confessional
Built in the mid-18th century by the Dominicans in homage to Our Lady of the Rosary, this church is one of the city's finest. It boasts a particularly large confessional and, with its portal and altar, is a fine example of churrigueresque art (18th-century Spanish Baroque art characterized by ornamental overload). The church boasts magnificent statues from the Quenñas and Spanish schools, which are highlighted during Holy Week celebrations. The Good Friday procession starts here.
