SANTUARIO DE BELÉN
Belén Chapel in Popayan, located at the end of Calle 4, with an interior with a beautiful panoramic view of the city
The Belén Chapel is located at the end of Calle 4, on a hill to the east of the historic center. It is accessed by a stony Way of the Cross. This religious sanctuary was built in 1681 in honor of Our Lady of Belen on the site where, according to legend, the Yanaconas natives came to worship Jesus during the Nativity. It was rebuilt in 1885 after an earthquake. Inside the temple lies the image of the Ecce Homo, the patron saint of Popayán. Nice panoramic view of the city from the promontory.
