BATEAUX VERS MANAUS
Descent by ferry to enjoy wonderful sunrises and sunsets
From Tabatinga, you can travel down the Amazon River to Manaus in 3 or 4 days by ferry, or 36 hours by motorboat. The ferry trip is a great way to discover life along the river, whose banks move in and out of sight, and to enjoy some wonderful sunrises and sunsets! Meals are included, but it's a good idea to stock up on food and water, as what's served isn't very exciting. Boats usually depart on Wednesdays and Saturdays, around 11am. Bring your own hammock (and cords) and a good book or card game. The boats can be crowded, but become less so with each stop. To organize your trip, go to the port of Tabatinga and buy your ticket, preferably two days before departure, directly on the boat. Arrive 2 hours before departure to ensure a good spot for your hammock. You can also get to Manaus by fast shuttle bus, usually on Saturdays and Sundays. Approx. 36 hours' travel time. Meals included, but bring your own water. Departure days and times may change, so check with your hotel. Don't forget your Colombia exit stamp (at Leticia airport). For Brazilian entry formalities, go to the Tabatinga migration office (on the main avenue, 3 km from the border, easily accessible by motorcycle cab). Finally, beware of the time difference: when it's 2 p.m. in Leticia, it's already 3 p.m. in Tabatinga...
